FIGHTING FOR A CAUSE 2011
Desoto Fire District 8
Ok, so we know about the important “CARES ENOUGH TO WEAR PINK” campaign but we also have another important cause to address. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! Desoto Parish Firefighters will be out collecting money at different intersections in the city of Mansfield on September 9th and 30th. The money collected will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for cancer research. The money collected goes towards helping find cures for children’s cancer as well as gives hope to those who may have a child who is battling cancer. This is an incredible cause and an awesome way to give support to this research. We also will be selling t-shirts for $15 to go towards supporting families with a child at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The shirts can be ordered by contacting me at bwilliams@df8.org. We want to help “SEARCH FOR A CURE” & “RESCUE A CHILD” Thank you for your support of all these important and life changing campaigns! For more information or if you would like to help please contact DFD8 or my email bwilliams@dfd8.org.
Also follow us on Face book at Desoto fire District 8 or on the web at dfd8.org. Again, we just want to say thanks for all your support!!!!!

Our 2011 pink shirts are now on sale. All proceeds this year will benefit the DeSoto Regional Cancer Center. You can purchase the shirts online by clicking on the pink shirt and pay for shipping or you can order by contacting a DeSoto Fire District 8 staff member. We will also be visiting local businesses showing off the shirts and taking orders. Our online purchase only allows for users to pay for one shirt at a time but we are working with our support systems to get this fixed so that you can buy multiple shirts at the same time. All supporters of our Pink Heals drive are encouraged to wear their pink shirt Friday, October 21st to show their support for women's cancer.

DeSoto Parish will allow residents to participate in the discharging of fireworks for the 4th of July holiday. While the parish government has allowed fireworks, residents should remember that we are in a drought which puts the area in extreme fire danger if any fireworks were to be improperly discharged. DFD 8 has a few tips to ensure safety this holiday season.
- Always have water handy. (A hose or bucket).
- Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter them or combine them.
- Fireworks and alcohol do not mix. Have a designated shooter
- Do not shoot fireworks into wooded areas
If you have any questions regarding firework safety please call us at 318-872-2453. Have a safe holiday.

It was a busy day for the members of B-Shift and responding volunteers Monday when the department responded to 3 working structure fires in less than 24 hours. Members started out early with the first fire reported at 0824. While getting apparatus back in service the department was paged out for a mutual aid request for another working fire. The third fire came in at approximately 0400 am the next morning. All three fires required firefighters to make an interior attack into the burning structure. Job well done B-Shift and all responding firefighters!
