The State and Parish Burn Ban has been lifted. Still keep these general outdoor burning safety tips in mind when burning.
- Check the weather-Don't burn on windy days.
- If you must burn trash, don't pile it on the ground. It will not burn completely and will easily blow away.
- Never attempt to burn any aerosol cans; Flying metal from exploding cans may cause an injury. Burning trash scattered by such an explosion has caused the spread of many fires
- Always stay until the fire is finished burning.
- Keep fires as far away from structure as possible (but within distance of a garden hose or other water source.)
- Never use gasoline or other flammables to start your fire.
- Call 911 IMMEDIATELY if you need any assistance. DO NOT WAIT.
If you have any outdoor burning questions be sure to contact us at 318-872-2453 before you begin burning.

The sale of DeSoto Fire District 8's Pink T-Shirts to support women's cancer research raised $8000 for Feist-Weiller Cancer Center located at LSUHSC-Shreveport. DFD 8 crews sold approximately 800 shirts around the community and declared Friday, October 15th as "Pink Shirt Day" where all supporters would wear their shirts. Firefighters spent the day traveling to all businesses that particpated taking pictures of everyone in their pink shirts. At 12:30 pm a ceremony was held at the courthouse square where a check was presented to Feist-Weiller Cancer Center for $8000. DeSoto Fire District 8 Chief David Manning and his wife Jane presented a matching funds check to the Center as Mrs. Jane is not only a supporter of the center, but a patient as well. DFD 8 expresses great thanks to everyone that participated. We hope to see you next year when we support this great cause again. Check our gallery page to see all the pictures from this years event.
