DFD 8 Supports DeSoto Parish Airport FLY-IN Event

Saturday, September 18, 2010  DeSoto Parish Fire District 8 recently participated in the DeSoto Parish Airport's First Annual Fly-In event. Crews stood by at the event with apparatus for visitors to view as well as allow the public to meet their firefighters. DFD 8 Works Single Vehicle Collision With Extrication

Wednesday, September 15, 2010   DFD 8 responded to a report of a single vehicle MVA on Hwy 84 near the Red River Parish line. Upon arrival a male patient was found trapped inside the vehicle. DFD 8 crews removed the driver door and roof to extricate. The patient was flown to LSU and his condition is unknown at this time. 



DFD 8 Supports Childhood Cancer

Monday, September 13, 2010  DFD 8 firefighters will be participating in a Fill the Boot campagin to help raise money for childhood cancer. Firefighters will be standing on the corners in Mansfield on Friday, September 17th and Friday, September 24th throughout the day starting at 9:00 am both days. DFD 8 Works Double Fatality on Highway 84

Saturday, September 11, 2010  DFD 8 crews were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle MVA on Highway 84 west of Mansfield at 2336 hours. Upon arrival crews found a Dodge pickup fully involved with occupants still inside. The Dodge had a head on collision with an 18 wheeler and burst into flames upon impact. The two occupants in the pick up were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the 18 wheeler was uninjured.



DFD 8 Battles Conveyor Belt Fire

Tuesday, August 31, 2010   At 1530 hours DFD 8 was paged to a commercial structure fire at a local paper plant. First arriving crews reported fire at various sites along a seven story conveyor belt. DFD 8 along with IP firefighters deployed crews at both the top and bottom entrances of the belt to make an interior fire attack. The fire was under control at approximately 2200 hours. Mutual aid was received by DeSoto Fire District's 1, 5, 9, Mansfield Fire Department and DeSoto Parish EMS. 



DFD 8 Helps Film Life Air Rescue Ground School Video

Sunday, August 29, 2010  DeSoto Fire Distict 8 firefighters along with DeSoto Parish EMS, DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office and Life Air Rescue particpated in a mock extrication drill on Saturday. The drill was filmed and will be used as a training tool for Life Air Rescue to distribute to other agencies to show viewers what to do when using Life Air Rescue on an emergecy scene.

Friday, August 27, 2010  DeSoto Fire District 8 is proud to support the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" Campaign. The department will be wearing these pink shirts in honor of our women! Our women are the most important people in our lives, whether they are our mothers, wives, daughters or sisters. Get your shirt to suppor the women in your life today. Money earned will be donated to the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center located at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. 



Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program Takes off

The Desoto Parish Fire Investigation Team is proud to announce the kick off of a Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program.

The Program is designed to prevent Juvenile Arson by the means of retraining a behavior concerning fire.

A risk evaluation is preformed prior to placement into the program to insure that a child has not been abused or is not in need of counseling due to a mental condition.

A coalition has been formed by local agencies which include law enforcement, health and hospital facilities, 42nd Judicial Court, school board, fire department as well as state level counselors. These coalition members will assist the program by providing support and resources as needed. This program is offered to any Juvenile which resides in DeSoto Parish and has a history of fire play.

DeSoto Fire District 8 Responds Mutual Aid for Tank Battery Fire

Monday, July 26, 2010   On Monday July 26 DFD8 was paged out for a mutual aid request from DeSoto Fire District 5 for a tank battery fire. Mutual Aid was also give by DeSoto Fire Districts 1 and 2. AFFF from DeSoto Fire District 2's CAFS pumper was utilized and the fire was extinguished promptly. Thanks to all the firefighters that responded for the manpower request. 



DFD8 's C shift Has Busy Day

Saturday, July 24, 2010   DeSoto Fire District's C shift had an eventful last shift on Saturday July 24. At 1547 DFD8 responded to a structure fire on Matlock street in Mansfield. After clearing the scene and getting all equipment back in service DFD8 was paged out to an EMS call at 1923. While en route, DFD8 was paged out to the second structure fire of the day located on HWY 84. Shortly after at 1935 the department was paged out to an MVA on HWY 84 W near the scene of the working house fire. While still on scene at 2150 C-Shift was paged out to I-49 for another MVA. In total C-Shift worked 7 calls that day making for one busy last shift of the tour!
