Online Request Are Now Available

Wednesday, July 7, 2010   Our online request for services as well as the online volunteer application are now available. Visitors can use our Request for Services link to submit an event you would like the department to attend. Examples of this range from fire prevention programs at your school, church, or community group to smoke detector checks at your residence to helping your organization develop a fire safety plan. We can also customize a specialized program to fit the needs of your group. Visitors who are interested on volunteering at DeSoto Fire District 8 can also find an online application on our Recruitment page now. This form will begin the process in starting your membership with the department. DFD 8 Completes Rope Rescue Course

Friday, July 2, 2010  DeSoto Fire District 8 firefighters recently completed a 40 hour rope rescue course. Members of DeSoto Fire District 1 and DeSoto Parish EMS also attended the class. The course followed NFPA 1670 for operations level response for techincal rescue. The couse was taught by Texas Rescue based out of Irving, Texas. DFD 8 Responds to Accident on Highway 175

Thursday, June 17, 2010   DeSoto Fire District 8 responded to a report of a MVA on Highway 175 just south of Highway 3015. Upon arrival DFD 8 firefighters reported that a big rig rolled over, blocking both lanes of Highway 175. The driver had self extricated prior to DFD 8's arrival and had only minor injuries. The rig was also carrying "drilling mud," some of which spilled on the highway. The highway was shut down for a few hours while crews worked to move the rig and clean up debris. 

     



 

DFD 8 Visits Local Church VBS

Friday, June 11, 2010  DFD 8 firefighters vistited Mary Evergreen B.C. to show off our trucks to the vacation bible school participants. About 50 local children got a chance to explore our fire apparatus, play with the lights and sirens, and cool off with the deck gun. DFD 8 Gets Grant From Encana

Tuesday, May 11, 2010  DeSoto Fire District 8 recieved a grant in the amount of $51,028 from Encana, a natural gas company in the area. The money will be used for training firefighters for gas related emergencies. The department will host two classes with the money. The first class coming at the end of June is Advanced High Angle Rope Rescue. The other class will provide firefighters with training in hazardous materials at the Technician level. This class will be held later in the year. DFD 8 would like to thank Encana for investing in our department.

   


 

DFD 8 Welcomes 4 New Staff Members

DeSoto Fire District 8 would like to welcome four new hires to the department's paid staff. New Hires began their exciting new career on May 1, 2010. The hires are Jared Nash- Probational Firefighter/Operator/EMT, Marshall Hayes-Firefighter/Operator Recruit, Rodney Huff-Firefighter/Operator Recruit, and Cody Young-Firefighter Recruit. The Recruits will have one year from their hire date to achieve IFSAC Firefighter I status. Probational Firefighters have already received IFSAC Firefighter I certification status begin a working test period immediately with a one year probation period.
